— A gentle, beautifully written reassurance book every child deserves.

"
You Can Count on Me by Korynn Freels, illustrated by Lizzie Walkley, is an easy five-star read—and truly a shame that it appears to be out of print.

This book has a wonderfully comforting premise: a caregiver who is present through all of a child’s moments—sadness, spills, sickness, bad dreams, scraped knees, hurt feelings, celebrations, and the simple need for a bear hug. What makes this story especially special is that the bears are intentionally gender-neutral—not in a trendy or political way, but in a deeply inclusive and human way. This book could belong to any child and any caregiver: a mom or dad, grandparent, aunt, uncle, foster parent, adoptive parent, or anyone who loves and shows up for a child.

The rhyming text is warm, gentle, and very easy to read aloud. Nothing feels forced, and the story flows naturally from page to page, making it a perfect choice for bedtime or quiet moments together. This is the kind of book that provides real emotional reassurance to young children and comfort to caregivers too. I sincerely hope this title finds its way back into print, because it absolutely deserves a spot on more shelves.
